Group Performance
Our group performed the act called "Cheeze-Itz". Originally we wanted to be breaking pencils on stage instead of Cheeze-Itz, but we decided that using the crackers would get more of a reaction out of our audience. There can be many different interpretations of our performance, and our audience came up with a few different meanings. The meaning that I got out of our act was the intense sound that one little cracker can make when it is broken during complete silence. Colby and I turned this simple act of crumpling crackers onto the floor into a sort of fight, or competition. No words were used, we were only able to project our emotions through the Cheeze-Itz. Derek acted as a kind of mediator, desperately trying to pick up the pieces of our argument. During the act, both Colby and I ignored Derek. We were completely focused on what the other was doing with their cracker. I feel that overall, our performance was a very effective one, and it got quite a positive reaction out of the audience.

This group's performance was very intruiging and interesting. The Cheez-it fight between the two really conveyed a lot of emotions. In fact, I think they were able to portray emotions better than any of the other groups. You really knew what each other was feeling, you knew it was an argument even though they used no words at all. You could tell things were getting more heated in the argument by the force of the Cheez-its hitting the floor. Since it was so silent, it really emphasized the feelings of the whole performance.
ReplyDeleteIt was in interesting factor to add a third person as a kind of mediator in the argument. He was picking up the pieces physically and also figuratively. Also portraying emotions, he had a look of anguish, like the fight was upsetting and he had to fix it. Overall, I think it was a great performance, and stands out in my mind from the others.
This performance was fantastic. The emotions portrayed by the angry, frustrated cheese-it throwers were really powerful to the piece. I think what really tied it together though was Derek cleaning up the pieces. It made me feel anxious, and slightly OCD. It contrasted so much to the argument but at the same time was as though he was trying to fix the situation. The ending was particularly good, they both just walked away from the fight and it reminded me of how fights usually end with no reparations. I think it was a strong piece, and it was definitely my favorite. It may have been even better with more dramatic variation to the force of the cheese it throwing, but then again it may have differed from their point. Overall very good performance.
ReplyDeleteThis was one of my favorite performances. When going back through all of them in my mind, this one and One Drum stuck out the most to me. When the piece first started I felt slightly awkward almost because I wasn't sure why there was so much anger between the two of them. I was curious and anxious at the same time. After each throw of the Cheez-Its I was wondering what was going to happen. Wondering if all of a sudden the silence would break and they would run at each other. I thought that maybe it should have built up more with different amounts of force throwing the Cheez-Its. It would be like how an argument may start out small and how it can build and build into something so much bigger than you could imagine. I also think it may have more effective and gotten the across the fact they were arguing with each other by throwing the Cheez-Its closer to each other, at each others feet. I feel like maybe you could sense more anger if they directed it even more towards each other. Overall though I thought it was a really good performance.
