We wanted to create a machine that needed the assistance of a human to operate. We played around with controlled artificial intelligence, and designed it so that you have to continue pressing the button while the apparatus moves from side to side. This creates difficulty in keeping the button held down fluidly and creates the illusion that the arm has it's own personality, when really, you are the one giving it its source. We added a smug face (well done by our model Colby Charpentier) that has a slight condescending and mocking expression to add to the experience of human interaction with a machine.
